What is sous vide cooking?
Sous vide (pronounced "soo-veed") is a method that uses a temperature-controlled water bath to cook food gently and evenly. It’s a favourite of chefs because it takes the guesswork out - helping you achieve perfect results without overcooking or drying anything out.
What is the SousChef and how does it work?
The SousChef is an immersion circulator that clips onto any pot. It heats and circulates water to the exact temperature you set, holding it steady throughout the cook. You seal your ingredients, submerge them and let the device do the rest.
What can I cook with it?
A lot more than just steak! It’s great for:
- Chicken breasts that stay juicy
- Fish fillets that don’t go mushy
- Eggs cooked to your ideal texture
- Tender vegetables
- Even desserts like custards and chocolate pots!
Do I need vacuum bags or a vacuum sealer?
Not necessarily. You can use standard zip-top bags and use the water displacement method to remove air. A vacuum sealer helps for longer cooks but isn’t essential for everyday use.
Do I need a special container?
No. Any large pot or heat-proof container works - just make sure it’s deep enough for the water to fully cover your food and allow for circulation.
What’s the difference between SousChef and Neovide?
Neovide is a countertop, waterless sous vide machine that uses steam in a vacuum chamber - great for easy use, with no bags or pots. The SousChef is a traditional immersion circulator that gives you more flexibility and is more portable and budget-friendly.
How long does it take to ship?
We offer free delivery in South Africa on orders over R1,000. For smaller orders, a flat rate of R150 applies. Orders placed by 2pm are dispatched same day, with delivery in 1–2 days to main areas and 2–3 days to outlying regions. Delivery times depend on our courier partners.
